On 11 Sep 2003, NUSS was awarded the National Arts Council (NAC) Arts Supporter Award. Mr Lai Kim Seng, President of the Society, represented NUSS in receiving the award from Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts. The Award was given to NUSS in recognition of its support for the Singapore Lyric Opera's (SLO)  production of Carmen in 2002.
