The NUSS Choir

Sing with us and enjoy a fulfilling time!

From its humble beginnings as a small chorus group supporting the Singapore Lyric Opera, the NUSS Choir has since made great strides in the choir scene, both locally and abroad.

Made up of 60 NUSS members, the Choir brings NUSS members together to socialise and sing with joy and enthusiasm. The Choir’s repertoire ranges from medieval to modern music, classical to theatrical, baroque to rock. Concert repertoire include sacred and secular pieces.

Having performed locally and abroad on many occasions, the Choir impresses audiences with their deep wealth of experience and achievements.

In the local arena, the Choir has presented its own concerts at the Esplanade, School of the Arts and University Cultural Centre and also sings at important NUSS functions and events. The Choir collaborates with veteran singers and in 2011, the Choir performed the evergreen Singapore song “Home” with Dick Lee at their annual concert. Members had the chance to sing with Rahima Rahim and Dawn Yip in the NUSS 60th Anniversary Cultural Fundraising Concert held in 2014, in celebration of the Society’s 60th birthday.

In 2005, its members sang at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and in September 2006, performed at the Ko Shan Theatre in Hong Kong.

Since 2012, the Choir has participated in overseas choir festivals held in Thailand, Bali, Malaysia, Hong Kong and recently in 2017, Taiwan. The Choir has been awarded Gold or Silver at these international choir competitions and music festivals. In addition, the Choir has been presented special Golden Voices Award and Most Inspiring Choir Award at some of these festivals as well.

More than just singing to impress, the Choir also strives to give back to the community through performing at various local and international community care events at old folks’ homes, children’s homes and hospitals. In 2016, the Choir performed in a joint concert programme with the Musica Sinfonietta in Penang, Malaysia to help to raise funds for Penang’s Hospice at Home Programme.

In addition, the Choir also reaches out and bring together young choristers from primary and tertiary institutions through the Singathon program, which helps them build their confidence and expose them to the professional choiring scene.
