Session 1: Evaluation and Introduction
- Assess risk of participants falling down and their Lower body Strength (Assessment Methods: functional reach, balance test and functional test)
- Learn the warm up exercises and the importance of proper warm up for injury prevention
- Learn the proper form of leg strengthening exercises e.g. squat and calf raises, which improves overall body movements and balance
Session 2: Exercises and Dance
- Practice to convert extrinsic feedback to intrinsic feedback while doing strengthening exercises
- Learn simple dance steps (focusing on weight shifting), improve body coordination and balance
Session 3: Introducing Intensity and Variations
- Increase duration for “butt-kicking exercise” helps to build up the leg strength, which helps to reduce stress in the knee joint
- Increase intensity for leg strengthening via increase range of motion/ repetitions / speed
- Challenge coordination by introducing arms movements while practising dance steps learnt from sessions 2 and 3
Trainer Profile
Mr Benedict Lau is an ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) certified teacher with over 20 years’ experience in dance and fitness instruction. Mr Lau teaches in his studio as well as off-site engagements by organisations and corporate companies. He has developed fitness and body conditioning programmes approved by NSA since 2016. Earlier in his career, Mr Lau competed at a professional level in DanceSport (1997 to 2007), was ranked first place in the Olympic Council of Malaysia (DanceSport) in 2005, and represented Malaysia in both SEA Games and Asian Games. He has won the top spot in several international competitions.
