Discover the beauty of the Qipao through modern pattern-drafting techniques in this immersive 3-day workshop. Designed for sewing enthusiasts and beginners alike, this hands-on course will guide you through drafting and constructing a contemporary, loose-fitting Qipao.
With step-by-step guidance from an experienced instructor, you will develop practical sewing skills while creating a garment tailored to your personal style.
Course Content
- Measurement, Drafting & Fabric Cutting
- Taking basic body measurements
- Understanding modern loose-fit Qipao silhouette
- Drafting a Personalised Qipao Pattern - Draft the front and back bodice, with or without darts. Draft the Mandarin collar. Choose sleeve options, either sleeveless or short sleeves. Add seam allowances. Plan the fabric layout. Mark and cut the fabric.
- Sewing Construction - Assemble the garment body. Sew the shoulder and side seams. Construct and attach the Mandarin collar. Attach the sleeves if applicable.
- Finishing & Completion - Finish the sleeves. Apply hem finishing techniques. Press and complete the garment.

- Draft a personalized loose-fitting Qipao pattern based on your personal measurements
- Understand how to adjust and personalize patterns based on the selected design

- Pattern drafting and garment construction
- Fabric handling and sewing precision
- Understanding fit, proportion, and design balance
- Apply professional finishing techniques, including facings and closures with interlining application
- Construct a classic side slit with clean finishing
- Create an overlapping front closure details using self-fabric bias binding with tie detail
