Course Outline
This course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive knowledge of different plants and their various applications in creative Botanical projects that can be used to enhance their lifestyle as well as potential commercial uses.
Centering around herbs, participants will:
- Gain knowledge of key tropical herbs and their properties
- Learn how to grow and propogate these herbs
- Learn how to use herbs in oil preparations, herbal teas and other applications
Key Herb Types, Common Usage, and Cultivation Requirement
- Overview of key herb types, their properties and common usage
- Herb harvesting and preservation concepts
- Preparation of Herb / spice potpourri
- Herb cultivation requirements
Culinary Herb Infused Oils
- Overview of herb infusion techniques
- Preparation of herb infused oils for culinary purposes
- Herb oils sampling session
- Each participant will prepare and bring back 3 different types of herb infused oil
Herb Propagation and Hands-on Session
- Introduction to Herb propagation techniques, seed, and stem propagation
- Hands on seed sowing, preparation of personal herb cuttings kit
Herbal and Floral Teas
- Overview of herbal tea concoctions
- Herbal tea properties
- Participants will learn to brew 3 to 4 types of herbal and floral teas
- Tea tasting session
- Each participant will bring back 2 to 3 different types of herbal teas
Trainer Profile
Darren Ng is an acclaimed hobbyist gardener in Singapore, featured on CNA, Ch.5 Garden Gurus program and various publications on STOnline, 8Days etc. He has conducted extensive Gardening content workshops in both public and private corporate settings, eg. National Libraries, HortPark, AtSunRise Cooking Academy, Swarovski SEA, etc, and also won several top awards in Singapore Garden Festival, Singapore Horticultural Show. Darren holds a BSC Honours (Botany) from NUS, has more than 25 years international corporate experience with several MNCs.
