The Joy of Playing the Guitar (Level 2) enables you to skillfully accompany yourself or others while singing beloved tunes spanning from the 70s to present day.
 
This programme delves into advanced chord progressions including flatted, diminished, and suspended chords, alongside integrating various strumming and plucking patterns.
 
Additionally, it deepens your grasp of chord progressions by incorporating linear bass-lines. The curriculum encompasses songs from diverse genres and artists such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Bee Gees, The Carpenters, Shakira, Chicago, John Denver, and more. Rhythmic structures are explored, elucidating concepts like simple time versus compound time and diverse plucking/strumming techniques.

Course Outline

  • Plays two songs in the first lesson and also your favourite
  • Creative, coordination, posture and projection
  • Understanding construction, maintenances and knowledge of Guitar
  • Discipline, critical thinking, confident and able to play individually and together as a team
  • Basic different strumming and plucking
  • Chords (major, minor and 7th)
  • Basic knowledge of rudiments of music
  • Able to read tabs and basic notes reading

Trainer Profile

Mr Clarence Chan has done three CDs both as a soloist and with his group, “He-Arts”. He has also performed at night spots such as Orchard Hotel, River View Hotel, British Club, Raffles Marina and more. During his time as a music instructor, the schools and institutions he taught in achieved multiple awards. At present, Mr Chan aims to share his love of music and guitar techniques to many in order to help build up the vibrant music scene in Singapore and around the region.

Mr Thomas Liauw obtained his M.A. (Music) as a research schloar at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He graduated with a B.A. (Honours) Degree in music from Kingston University (London), obtained his Fellowship from Victoria College of Music (United Kingdom), Licentiate Diploma in Teaching from the Trinity College of Music (London) and a Music Diploma from LaSalle College of the Arts (Singapore).
